Hello FabFairies, how was church today? and for the moslems, how are you?.
This is a new year, i know most agencies will soon start their open casting calls for new models, i also believe some of you are getting prepared. But first, do you know what a casting call is and do you have an idea of things you need when going for a open casting call..
Casting calls is a day were an agency opens its
doors to aspiring models who are willing to join its agency without having to make an appointment. This gives you
the perfect opportunity to meet with top agencies.
When you go for a casting call, you have to present yourself in a way to catch the agencies attention, this starts from the way you dress, like the popular saying that says dress the way you want to be addressed. The most important thing to do when it comes to clothes is to be yourself or sport your own personal style, but please be age appropriate. Do
not dress overly sexy but don't undress, either. For female models, the best thing
you can do is to wear leggings or fitted jeans, heels
(always wear heels!) and a tank top or fitted top. Wear clothes that flatter your figure and that you
feel good wearing. For male models, nice and comfortably jeans, clean shoes (type
doesn't really matter as long as they are presentable) and a fitted
t-shirt is alrite.
For hair and makeup, your hair should be left undone, if it is not possible, you should tie it away from your face. Dont wear big or colourful weaves or hair that will draw attention away from your face. The Agencies are not interested in the hair you are wearing, just be yourself and dont overdo it. For makeup, make sure your face is not too oily, no need of heavy foundation either and make sure your eyebrows are well defined, your nails should not fixed but cut low and clean. Also dont use loud lipsticks like red, wine, purple, instead use lipgloss, nude lipsticks or nothing at all. The point is, the agency wants to see the real you, so dont go there looking like Lady Gaga.
The agencies will instruct you to bring professional pictures. My advice for you is if you have a modelling portfolio, please take it along, if you dont have one, go to a studio and take very good pictures, not everyone can afford a portfolio. Take about 5 to 10 pictures of you wearing different costumes. These don't have
to be professional but they should be good quality and show your face
straight on.
Write your name, stats and contact information on the back of each pictures in case the agency asks to keep them . No funny poses or pictures with other
people. At the casting call, the agent may take pictures of you.
Each agency has their own way of conducting their casting calls, but
expect to be looked over head to toe by the agency's staff. They'll most likely ask
you questions about yourself, if you have any modeling experience, why
you want to be a model, what makes you stand out, etc. Be honest, be confident and be yourself.
I remeber a casting call i went for December 2013. I was asked to walk (as in a runway walk, if you
don't know mhow, just do your best, they don't expect you to be a pro) At the end, they got my statistics
and contact info. If they're really
interested they'll let you know...if not right then and there, in a few
days.
Some may tell you straight up that you aren't what they're looking
for. There are times when they'll tell you to come back at a later
date. Don't take
it personally. The good thing is that they want you to come back so
don't question their reasons. Listen to their feedback and work on
improving.
Just keep in mind that the most important thing is when going for a casting call, believe in yourself and be confident.
